During a murder trial in a court in Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan, police said that all the evidence, including the murder weapon (knife), had been taken away by the monkeys.
The court had ordered the police to present evidence of the murder at the last hearing but now the police have told the court that they do not have the confiscated evidence related to the murder.
‘Monkeys took evidence from police station’
Rural Jaipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Manish Agrawal has given this information to the court in writing. “This case is from 2016,” . The treasurer in charge at the time reported in 2017 that the monkeys had taken evidence.
According to police, the main evidence of the murder included knives, bloody clothes, mud taken from the scene, blood samples, slippers, mobile phones and all 15 important evidence related to the murder were kept in one box.
The box of evidence was kept under a tan shed in the warehouse of Chandwaji police station in Jaipur.
The court has expressed anger over the police. The public prosecutor has also written a letter to the Jaipur SP asking him to investigate the matter and present all the evidence in court.
However, Additional SP of Rural Jaipur Police Dharmendra said that “SFL investigation report of evidence has been submitted in the court”.
Who is responsible.
Chandwaji police chief Dilip Singh told the BBC: “Evidence of the murder was in the treasury. Meanwhile, a group of monkeys took a box of evidence from the police station. So far, the staff has changed and the then treasury in-charge has retired.
“We had all the evidence, including knives, clothes and slippers,” he said, adding that because the file was in court, we did not have all the information and there were still many monkeys.
Police told the court that Hanuman Sahai Yadav, in-charge of the warehouse, had lodged a report in the police station’s diary when the monkeys took away the evidence.
Hanuman Sahai Yadav died in the year 2021 after his retirement.
The public prosecutor has questioned the story told by the police and demanded a fair investigation. The entire matter is being investigated by Additional SP Dharmendra of Jaipur Rural Police.
Evidence of case investigation
Additional SP Dharmendra told the BBC: “The evidence was sent to the SFL for investigation and then they were brought back from there. The then in-charge of the treasury then reported in the diary that the evidence box had been taken away from under the tan shed.
The Additional SP said that the investigation revealed the negligence of the then head constable in charge of the treasury, after which the head constable was written for action, but it was found out that he had died in 2021 after retirement. ‘
He further added thats “Heads Constables Hanuman Sahai had not informed his seniors about this ats that time.”
Two accused of murder
In 2016, Shashi Kant Sharma, a resident of Chanduji village in Jaipur, was found dead at the Primary Health Center.
After which the family had demanded the arrest of the culprits by blocking the highway from Delhi to Jaipur.
As the controversy escalated, police stepped up their investigation into Shashi Kant Sharma’s death. During the investigation, two youths from Chanduji were arrested on charges of murder.
According to the accused, a murder weapon (knife) was recovered. The murder was allegedly committed with the same knife. Police also gathered several more pieces of evidence.
The murder case is being heard in the trial court of Jaipur where the court had ordered to present evidence in the recent hearing. But police told the court that the evidence had been snatched away by the monkeys.
