Doing office work from home is polluting the environment more

A new study claims that part-time work from home can be detrimental to the environment because it allows people to stay away from the office.

Researchers have found that people who work from home one day a week are more likely to stay away from the office than those who spend the whole week in the office.

Employees living in the suburbs have to travel more miles a week, even though their office is only a few rounds away. So their cars emit more carbon.

According to researchers, more people travel more when they are working from home, such as going to shops or cafes.

The research trips included car and public transport such as trains, buses and trams. They emit more carbon than all other modes of transport.

The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Sussex Business School in Brighton and was published in the journal Transportation Research Part A.
