Android phones allow you to communicate, work, and play with just your voice – freeing up your hands and improving the way you use your phone every day. Once you’ve got this awesome hands-free functionality on your Android phone, you’ll wonder how you ever did without it! Here’s how to use Touchless Control to go hands free on your Android phone!

What Is Touchless Control?

Touchless Control is a feature on some Android phones that allows you to control your phone without having to touch it. This can be useful if you want to use your phone hands-free, or if you have an injury that prevents you from being able to use your hands.

There are two ways to enable Touchless Control: the first option is for Samsung devices and requires setting up a custom voice command and activation phrase.

The second option for other devices (including Google) will require installing the Voice Command app from the Play Store. It’s important to note that this method won’t work with all Android devices. Once you’ve downloaded the app, go into Settings and tap Voice input & output settings > Custom voice actions > Select action > Custom actions > select Listen Now .

Here you’ll need to set your activation phrase which is usually OK Google. You’ll also need to teach the app how to respond when you say OK Google by saying phrases like What’s my next meeting? or what’s the weather today? After going through these steps, you’ll find that using your phone hands-free has never been easier! Just say OK Google followed by one of the commands mentioned above and let your phone do the rest.

Get Started by Enabling the Feature

If you want to go hands free on your Android phone, you can do so by enabling the Touchless Control feature. To get started, open the Settings app and tap on the Sound & vibration option. Then, scroll down and tap on the Touchless Control option. Tap on the toggle switch next to Touchless Control to enable the feature. Once the feature is enabled, you will be able to use it by saying Ok Google followed by a voice command.

For example, you can say Ok Google, call mom or Ok Google, navigation to work. You will have to set up Voice Match if you are an Android user which means that only your voice can unlock your device. Otherwise, any person who speaks with a similar voice will be able to unlock your device if they know your password.

Training Your Device to Understand Your Voice

With Touchless Control, you can train your device to better understand your voice. To do this, open the Google app and touch the microphone icon. Then, say OK Google followed by a command or question. For example, you could say Call Mom. If your device doesn’t recognize what you’re saying, you can touch the screen and type out your request.

You’ll need to set up an ‘Ok Google’ trigger phrase so that it knows when you’re giving it a command rather than just having a conversation with someone else. You can choose from any of these phrases: Hey Google, OK, Google, Google, or Okay, Glass. After picking one, tap Done in the bottom right corner of the window. You may also be prompted to turn on Voice Match if you haven’t already done so.

Now, all you have to do is say OK Google followed by a command like What’s the weather? or Set timer for 10 minutes. If you want to ask about the location of a restaurant, for instance, say OK Google, Where is Pier 1? If your phone recognizes the word Pier, then it will bring up information about Pier 1 as well as other nearby locations.

In order to get into hands-free mode with Touchless Control, just touch the home button while not doing anything else on your phone. You’ll see what looks like two overlapping circles at the bottom of your display; they represent audio waves coming from both sides of your phone. In order to exit hands-free mode without opening another app (say after making a call), press down firmly on one side of the screen and drag upwards until you reach your home screen.

Using Voice Commands Without Saying ‘OK Google’

If you’re using a Pixel 2 or later, you can use voice commands without saying OK Google. Just hold down the power button for a few seconds and then release it. You’ll see a visual cue that your phone is listening. Start speaking your command. If you need to type something, just say type followed by what you want to say.

When you’re done, tap the mic icon or say stop. It’s super convenient when you’re driving, cooking, or don’t want to look at your screen while texting. Plus, this is a great way to keep your hands free in other situations like if you’re reading or painting with your kids. The only downside? There are still some things that require touching the screen so it’s not quite as hands-free as we’d like!

Additional Tips and Tricks

  1. To enable Touchless Control, go to Settings > Google > Search and Now > Voice > Ok Google detection.
  2. Once you’ve enabled the feature, you can say Ok Google followed by a voice command even when your phone is locked.
  3. You can use voice commands to call contacts, send texts, get directions, and much more.
  4. To see a complete list of voice commands that are available, open the Google app and tap the hamburger icon in the top left corner > Settings > Voice > Ok Google detection.

5.Touchless Control isn’t just for using your phone hands-free! The Follow with Google Now feature will allow you to do other tasks with simple voice commands while using other apps or browsing the web. For example, if you’re playing music through Spotify and want to listen to another artist’s playlist, simply tell Siri: Ok Google, follow this with google now. You’ll be able to search for new artists as well as find similar artists or albums all without leaving Spotify.
