Microsoft’s Sticky Notes app has been around since Windows 7, but it’s gotten several new features over the years, including integration with OneNote and Cortana. If you use Sticky Notes on any device, you should be familiar with how to get the most out of this simple note-taking tool. Here’s everything you need to know about using Microsoft’s Sticky Notes on Windows 10, the web, and your mobile device.

Get Started with Sticky Notes

Microsoft’s Sticky Notes are a great way to keep track of your thoughts and ideas. You can use them on your Windows 10 computer, on the web, or on your mobile device. Here’s how to get started with sticky notes on Windows 10, the web, and your mobile device. When you open up the app for the first time, you’ll see four different note colors (yellow, green, blue, and purple) in addition to five sizes (miniature, small square, medium square, large square, and large rectangle).

The smaller squares measure 1/8 by 1/8 while the larger squares measure 3/4 by 3/4. If you have an active subscription for Office 365 Home or Office 365 Personal (but not Office 365 Business), then you’ll also be able to create colored backgrounds for your notes! You can customize each note by clicking it from within the app window. Once you do that you’ll be able to edit its content as well as its color.

One thing you might want to try is adding a background color to one of your notes, which will make it stand out more than all the other default white ones. You can either set the background color manually using the RGB sliders or enter a specific hex code like #FFFFFF. To change text styles, head over to the Format tab and select what you want there. That’s all there is to it!

Stickies Everywhere

You can find sticky notes in a lot of places these days. They’re not just for school or work anymore; they’re for your personal life, too. Here’s a guide to using Microsoft’s sticky notes in Windows 10, on the web, and on your mobile device. First things first, open up the Sticky Notes app by clicking on it on your taskbar or opening it from Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > Sticky Notes. When you first open it up, you’ll be prompted to create a new note with the shortcut keys (Ctrl+N).

Type in what you want this note to say and click OK when done. From there, you can do all sorts of fun stuff with it! To change the color or pen size, right-click on any open space within the note and select Highlighter under Stylus options. There are other tools as well that allow you to quickly insert pictures or shapes. If you need more room for your thoughts than one page offers, simply click at the bottom right corner of the window to turn over to a new page.

And if there’s anything else you need to remember about this particular note, like who said something important during an event meeting, just add them as a reminder by clicking at the top left corner of the window. The desktop version is almost identical to the one on your computer screen. It has the same list of buttons at the top left of the window as well as quick access to inserting photos or shapes into your note, flipping pages, and adding reminders.

On Windows 10 Mobile devices, such as a Surface Phone, accessing Sticky Notes is simple–just tap the Action Center icon then tap Add Reminder button. For those with iPhones or iPads running iOS 11+, follow these steps: Open Settings App then go to General > Spotlight Search then turn on Show App Suggestions in Spotlight Search and make sure Sticky Notes is checked off in Recommended apps so it will show up as an option when you swipe down from your home screen.
