Trump is scheduled to attend a private meeting with the Business Roundtable, a prominent business lobbying group in Washington D.C., on June 13th, just weeks after being convicted in New York for falsifying business records related to hush money payments. The Business Roundtable’s CEO, Joshua Bolten, confirmed Trump’s attendance in an email to members, while President Biden will be unable to attend due to overseas travel.
This meeting could potentially draw over 200 CEO members of the Business Roundtable, including influential figures like Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase, Steve Schwarzman of Blackstone, and Mike Wirth of Chevron. It marks a significant effort by Trump to seek backing and financial contributions from business leaders for his 2024 presidential campaign, despite his recent conviction.
While the Business Roundtable supported Trump’s tax cuts during his presidency, they opposed his tariffs on Chinese products, and some members resigned from White House advisory councils after the Charlottesville attack in 2017. However, Republican-leaning business leaders have largely disregarded Trump’s guilty verdict, with his campaign reporting over $50 million in donations within 24 hours after the conviction.
The meeting is expected to be confidential, and Trump’s team has confirmed his attendance, though details on specific attendees are unclear. White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients will address the group on behalf of the Biden administration.
